HEARING PROTECTION
CUSTOM MOULDED EAR PLUGS
Custom fit for your comfort and protection.
An estimated 8.2 million Canadians aged 40 to 79 have at least mild hearing loss in the high-frequency range but 6.3 million of them do not perceive any loss of hearing. - Statistics Canada (2019)
Custom Moulded Ear Plugs
Just like one size fits all work boots are probably not the best choice, neither is one size fits all hearing protection. Every human ear is unique in size, shape, and depth. Therefore, for hearing protection to be the most effective, it must be custom fit.
A custom-moulded earplug is a laboratory-made earplug made from moulds taken by trained, experienced professionals. Most often, ear impressions are made of acrylic or soft silicone that can fit the ear and ear canal tightly. Softer earplugs change shape slightly as the wearer’s ear canal changes shape when talking or chewing, thereby continuing to seal during those activities. While disposable earplugs may seem like a quick fix, it is important to consider the costs associated with ongoing replacement, infection due to overuse, damage resulting from improper use, and your employees’ overall comfort level, which will ultimately affect their productivity.
The slow-recovery foam earplug has the widest use in the world. It requires the wearer to roll down into a small cylinder, inserting as deeply into the ear canal as possible before holding in place until it has fully expanded and fills the ear canal.
Did you know?
It takes longer for foam earplugs to expand in cold weather, and in some cases, it can take as long as 2 minutes. As a result, most wearers do not get adequate protection for their specific task, which over time, is detrimental to their hearing health and overall well being.

FAQs
Moulds can be made on location, or in our Edmonton or Calgary facilities.
Moulds take only about 15 minutes to complete. Your custom plugs will take about 2‒4 weeks to receive and can be shipped directly to your home.
The plugs are twisted into place with the canal portion inserted first and with the earplug rotated
backwards until they ‘lock’ in place. To remove plugs, do a reverse twist – do not pull them straight
out – as the vacuum created could cause damage to the eardrum.
Custom-moulded earplugs are typically delivered in a protective storage/carrying pouch and will be
accompanied with a tube of lubricant (most often petroleum jelly). The lubricant is applied to the
earplugs during their initial use/break in period. The lubricant makes the earplugs easier to insert
and also softens the interface of the earplug and ear improving comfort. After about 10 uses with the
lubricant, applications can stop as the silicon should have absorbed enough material to be easily inserted for the life of the earplug.
