Part 16 of the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Code
According to the OHS code, “excess noise” was previously defined as “noise that exceeds 85 dBA Lex and the exposure limits listed in Schedule 3, Table 1”; as of Dec 2022, that number has been lowered to 82 dBA Lex. (dBA Lex is the averaged level of total exposure to noise in dBA adjusted to an equivalent 8 hour exposure.)
Baseline audio testing is conducted to provide a reference point for future audiometric testing. Baseline testing is conducted ideally at the beginning of employment, but no later than 6 months after the start of employment. Frequency of testing after the baseline must be 12 months after the baseline test and then every two years thereafter. Effective March 31, 2023.
